Have you ever had a kindred spirit? Once, ever so long ago, I was blessed with a kindred spirit. How do you know you’ve met a kindred spirit? My husband’s family was from Missouri. They had attended a church close by their farm. The minister of that church was definitely a kindred spirit to me. The things we discussed (in person or on the phone) – the church, the quilters’ group, cooking of applesauce (all recorded in photographs by me), as well as conversations about religion. The Bible. Bible stories. Kids’ Sunday School. Family. Acquaintances. We were just always on the same page.
By definition, your kindred spirit will be a person who has similar interests and attitudes to yours. Remember this: Your kindred spirit may not be a spouse or other family member, or close friend, and that’s okay. But, how do you know if you have met a kindred spirit? I’m not sure there is a guarantee for this. I think it is a feeling. For a person who doesn’t have much to do with feelings, this may be a difficult concept.
It may be a feeling that washes over you that silently says, “This person thinks like you do. This person says the same kinds of things you would say.” Sometimes, you have thought those thoughts just before they came out of the other person’s mouth. You may have this understanding the first time you meet that person, male or female. It may be somewhat disturbing; eerie, actually. You ask yourself, why? And, there is no answer. The understanding is just there. You must decide to pursue the question, is this or is this not my kindred spirit? Don’t wait too long, or the moment of recognizing a kindred spirit may pass you by.
So. have you ever met someone for the first time and thought to yourself: Wow, we are totally on the same page just about everything. As I said, it can be kind of eerie to learn that you share almost the exact same point of view as another person, even if you have had completely different life experiences. If you have ever felt this feeling, then I think you may have come across your kindred spirit. You don’t need to forego your other relationships. Romantic relationships. Family relationships. Business relationships. Any current relationships. But, if you do find a kindred spirit, work with that feeling, and you may find you’ll have a really great new relationship.
Fortunate is the person who is given at least one kindred spirit in the life they lead. Listen to your gut, and you may be very thankful. But, only time will tell.

opps lost my email!! One of my “kindred” spirits is a friend I met in 1978 (44 years ago), she from NY and me from Colorado. Our friendship has grown and continues over the years.
I don’t know that I have a kindred spirit in every sense of those words, however I have a handful of people in my life with whom I share many aspects of my world view, and they are the most cherished people in my life! I got to see many of them during my trip to Denver!
