Quotes From A Calendar

We all get calendars.  Every year, we get calendars.  From charities.  From foundations.  Sometimes, and these are the ones we keep, calendars with photographs of our children.  I am no different.  I get calendars.  One of my favorite “throw-away” calendars had two-to-four word sayings on them.  I don’t know who writes these statements.  Or, where they came from.  Maybe, somebody’s mom or dad said it at some time, and the calendar creator remembered the saying and decided to put it onto a calendar.  So, I cut the sayings off of the calendar and thought I’d use them here.  Most offer very sage advice, if we take them to heart.

Worry less; smile more.  In my last blog, I talked about reaching out to others.  A smile is the easiest way to make contact.  I find that people respond to a smile with a smile.  Or, sometimes, with a “have a nice day.”  Or some other kind thing.  A smile helps to make our days better.

Do something good today.  I think I want to attempt to do something good for someone else, each day.  And, there are days when I seem to get up from the wrong side of the bed.  If, on those days, I do make an effort to do “something good,” that contact tends to make my day better.

Today is the day.  Oh boy!  How many times have I said, today is the day I’m going to get the kitchen clean and tidy.  Or, I’ll vacuum the floor (even though I’ve been forbidden to use the vacuum).  Or, maybe, it’s the day to make the appointment to take the dog to the groomer.  Or start a more nutritious food regimen (I hate the word, diet).  Or, take the car to have it washed (it will probably cause rain to fall, if Ido).  Or… Or… Or…  You can probably tell that this is not a very good mantra for me.

Best day ever!  I love to hear people – especially, children – say this.  They have reviewed their short life and decided that this is the best day ever!  Grown ups can also believe they are having the best day ever.  Just like Larry, when he said that when he held his children for the first time, they were his best day(s) ever!  My days are all mostly spectacular.  First, I wake up above the grass or snow in the back yard.  Then I’m blessed by having my family and friends, including neighbors and helpers.  I belong to great organizations.  People who assist with my medical issues are the best.  It is difficult to choose a “best day ever.”  I’m going to work at deciding that all of my days can be placed in that class of days!

It’s never too late.  This is a hard one.  Is it too late to mend a difficult relationship.  Mending starts with an attempt.  Maybe, it has to be decided if such a relationship is worth mending.  If not, then, it is simply time to move on – and not be concerned with whether it is too late, or not.  If, however, we want to restore such a relationship¸ then, work at it.  And, very probably, we’ll find that it is never too late.

Let your light shine.  Have faith.  Have courage and be kind.  Make your dreams happen.  These four seem to be so closely related that they must not be separated.  How can we make our dreams happen, if we don’t let our light shine.  Have faith that we can achieve our dreams.  All of the while, having courage and being kind.  What approach do we use to make contact with other people.  We must have faith  We must have courage.  We must be kind.  We must let our light shine!  Other people, we hope, will see all of this and be positive contributors to our lives.

Love in the moment.  Last, but definitely not least (as they say), this may be the most important saying on the calendar.  When we are able to exude a feeling of love, it will be like a mantle that surrounds our shoulders, sensed if not seen, by the people we meet.  We all know people who just seem to wear a mantle of anger or revulsion.  It’s difficult to get past that appearance.  We may not even try or succeed.  But, if we can present an aura of love in the moment, we can only hope that it will have a desired effect in return.

My hope is that your days be filled with love and enjoyment, and that you have the best day – ever!

Be Safe and Be Well.

Living across the street from a construction site and being involved in a legal skirmish with the developer makes it difficult to embrace any day as “the best day ever”. But your blog made me smile and reminded me that it is possible to find a way to co-exist with mess and have good contacts with good people – if I just remember to keep my eyes and my heart open. Thank you, Marj, for the reminder!!

Mom, my favorite is the last one. And I really appreciate your insight to it with, “But, if we can present an aura of love in the moment, we can only hope that it will have a desired effect in return.”

For several years, I texted quotes, sayings, and then in the end, photos, to your Grands. I did this every day (EVERY DAY) around 7:00am, partly to make sure they were awake, but mostly so they would have something positive to read or see in the morning before they started their day. I ended the practice this past May because my waking hours were getting more and more crowded, and I couldn’t seem to keep up. But I miss this ritual; maybe they do too. Perhaps some day when life is a bit slower, I will return to supplying my kids with more of these.

Thank you for this week’s blog.

my favorite quote: Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain.\
and then there’s our church’s mission prayer:
God Where will your spirit lead me today?
Help me be filly awake and ready to respond.
Grant me courage to risk something new and become a blessing of your love and peace. Amen
