SUBJECT: SAFEWAY ONLINE ORDERING SYSTEM
Dear Ms. Morris:
our on-line process for ordering groceries to be picked up at a specific store is, basically, stupid, inconvenient, useless, unintelligent, difficult to access and use, and laughable – if it were not so maddeningly impossible to use. I could go on …
I have been a customer of the Safeway stores for about fifty years – perhaps more. At my age of 87, it is difficult to remember just how early I began shopping at Safeway. I think, however, that shopping at Safeway is about to become a thing of the past. There are several other grocery stores within driving distance that I will start to use with my next list. In this past six months, my purchases at Safeway have totaled hundreds – may I say, thousands – of dollars. As important as these dollars are to the well-being of any grocery store, the lack of personal recommendation is worse. I will not, at any time in the future, recommend that friends shop at a local Safeway store.
For months, I have been ordering groceries on-line. When I began using the process, it was easy to get into the site, order the products that I need, and provide the information for payment and pick-up location after selecting what I needed. This is no longer the case. First, as I attempted to tell the woman with whom I talked (who does not speak the same kind of English that I speak, by the way – even though she has had some reasonably good training and tried to be helpful!), it became impossible for me to figure out how to sign in, give some kind of password (when did that start?), and attempt to order anything. When I placed a product into the search for products area, all that ever happened was the whirling dervish circles (loading, I think she called it). Never an opportunity to place an order for any item.
Everything about this on-line ordering is now impossible. Impossible to get into the site. Impossible to order anything. And, impossible to get some kind of help. IMPOSSIBLE!!!
And, so, my choice is to vote with my feet. I will go to other stores to purchase my grocery needs.
