Late last year (or early this year – I can’t remember), I wrote friends and relatives asking for their input into my question. I said, “I want to create a blog about wishes. I was thinking about wishes and here is what I thought: If I had one wish that I knew would be granted – only one, what would I wish for?” I also said, “I’m hoping this is not an imposition for anyone!” I also asked random people in the grocery store. Many of you responded to my request. Here for our perusal is what was said.
Responses came from merchants, friends, relatives, scientists and medical personnel. In my e-mail, I told these folks my wish – you can read it below. I appreciate all of the thought that was given to my request. For some, it was a quick response; for others, it took some time. I asked if other members of a family had wishes. that their wishes also be sent. One family gave me their wishes.
Everyone doesn’t believe in making wishes; instead, prayers are offered: “I don’t believe in wishes. I stopped making them a very long time ago when I realized that wishes bypass the presence and power of God. I don’t even use the phrase, ‘I wish…’ casually. But if you’ll let a prayer stand in for a wish, then mine is that every man, woman, and child would come to know the love of Christ and be saved. That’s what I pray for every day.” (MFA) This made me think – perhaps, is a wish a kind of prayer?
At my grocery store, the tall man bagging my groceries wished for God to have more control; and Jesus to be more present in everyday lives
A family shared the question with family members. “This is a hard one, choosing between a personal wish and a one for the world.” This Mom/Grandma shared: “W”, aged 4, wishes for a water tower toy and a kitten; “B”, aged 2, also wishes for a water tower toy, but no kitten; “E”, aged 40, wishes for an immediate end to the genocide in Palestine; “B”, aged 38, wishes for an end to man-made climate change. “S” – Mom / Grandma wishes for a kinder and cleaner planet for the children, especially my grandchildren and their children some day.
I do think the question is a hard question. So hard, that the butcher at my grocers, “Could not think of anything.”
A response from Canada, first said that my wish (below) sounds like a good wish; however, she would add that “I want to be in a healthier body than I had when I was actually in my thirties or forties. Husband, “L” says he’ll think about it and get back to me.” I think that he is still thinking about it. (PC)
Health definitely played a big part in the wishes. For example, the store manager at my grocery store wished for his mother to get well; she was not well at the time I asked the question of him.
This response came from HKB. “I know that you said only ONE wish, but I have two: 1) To receive a comfortable monthly income that would pay all of my bills, give money to help my family and to donate, and money so that I can travel; 2) –Be at my optimum weight so that I am healthy, live without pain, and be fit so that I can do physical activities.”
Medical people have wishes, too. TH wishes to have the ability to participate with his family on the stuff that he has now. To connect with family as much as he wants to.
As I said, I know that my request for wishes was not an easy task for some folks. SL said, “I have given a lot of thought about your request, asking for our fondest wish. I have decided I want to leave the world a better place through voting, raising competent and kind children/grandchildren and through activism for my values.”
The safety and longevity of our world and country was wished for by several. “My wish is for greed to be removed from all on planet Earth. I believe with no greed, we would also eliminate war, poverty, hunger, and crime. That’s a world I’d like to see!” (LR)
A scientist friend wrote, “I wish for a world without fear.” (BS)
I did think a long time about that one wish that I would wish for. I decided that “I wish that I could be much younger – say in my thirties or forties – and have the same knowledge and insights that I now have.” This wish was what started me thinking about other wishes – wishes from my readers. You have made wishes that I had not thought about. Thank you for helping with this blog.
Be Safe and Be Well.
